I've been getting a lot of air bubbles in my Prosaid Bondo mix. It seems to foam a bit as i was mixing in my pigment powder and flocking...??
Also, they have been shrinking to the point of distortion with air bubbles. They seem to have a lot of moisture than normal when i take them out from the freezer...?? I'm waiting on some plasticizer so i can skip the freezer step.
What is the formula for plastizer and bondo mix?
Thanks folks! |

Try vacuum de-airing it, before spatulating it into your molds. That should eliminate the air bubbles.
Also, straight, thickened Pros-Aide shrinks far less than Pros-Aide thickened with Cabosil.
To thicken the Pros-Aide without fillers, (like Cabosil), simply let it dehydrate naturally. This can be sped up, by placing it in a mixer, on it's slowest speed, for several hours. A heat lamp aimed at the mixer helps, too. Although, don't get it too close! You don't want to start a fire. This will elevate the temperature, promoting the evaporation of the water content. And, the mixer will keep the evaporation even, keeping a skin from forming on the surface which in turn would slow the drying process, and avoiding the adhesive from getting lumpy. MONITOR THIS CONSTANTLY, TO AVOID ANY HAZARDS. When the Pros-Aide reaches the consistancy of sour cream, (with no lumps, of course), you're done. Repackage it, and use as needed. The over all volume will be reduced by 25% to 50%. So, make sure you get at least double what you think you will need to eventually fill the molds. If you make too much, don't worry. It has a very stable shelf-life. You can always use the excess at a later point in time.
In regards to freezing the appliaces, it does nothing to extract the moisture. All it does is cause the Pros-Aide to congeal, allowing it to be removed from the mold in one piece, not a goopy mess. The appliances still need to air-dry thoroughly, to remove the moisture content. Also, be aware that they dry from the outside, in. So, while the surface may be dry, it may take a while longer for the inside to dry, too. |

| it's been brought to my attention that you can actually tint the bondo with the translucent face powders that ben nye makes. I went today and purchased "fair" translucent face powder and used it to tint a very tiny (and seperate) amount of bondo, spatulated it into my mold, froze it, etc. etc. and the end result is perfect. So just as an fyi, if you can't pin point the color tint you'd like... the face powders may be a good idea to try. |

awesome tutorial!
At first, I interpreted it as the Bondo used in auto body repairs, and thought to myself, "this doesn't sound right...or safe" |

Has anyone use the Graftobian Pro Adhesive for these? Is there really any difference between it and Pros-aide?

Great Tutorial! Thanks to all for sharing their ideas on these transfers. _________________ Living Life One Frame at a Time

Graftobian is what I use for all of mine. In my opinion, it's as good as anything else out there and the price is very reasonable. _________________ Bob
